#34 – Judy Gelles – Meet the Artists Who Have Inspired Us to Part with Our Cash – 2.22.09
Feb 22nd

#34 in the Meet the Artists Who Have Inspired Us to Part with Our Cash series is Judy Gelles. We discovered Judy Gelles and her work during a Philadelphia Open Studio tour she was part of a few years ago. I was most attracted by this piece and the use of intense color against a background devoid of color.

Her website states “Having long been caught in the nexus of feminism, motherhood, finding a career and developing as an artist, Judy Gelles has undertaken a determined and obsessive thirty year exploration on these issues, providing social commentary on who we are and how we think in this socially organized world.”
Judy work is being featured in a group show through the end of February, 2009 at Pentimenti Gallery in Philadelphia. 145 N Second Street. The gallery is open Wednesday thru Saturday.

Feb 14th

#33 in the Meet the Artists Who Have Inspired Us to Part with Our Cash series is Betsy’s aunt, Eileen Feigenbaum. Although Eileen, now in her eighties, no longer paints (the pieces we own were painted circa 1945-55), she contines to inspire Betsy with her energy and love of beauty.
Eileen is a long-time resident of New York City, but makes frequent trips to Philly to visit with her sister and her niece.
#32 – Diana Riukas – Meet the Artists Who Have Inspired Us to Part with Our Cash – 2.1.09

We first became familiar with Diana’s work at an exhibition titled "Mixed Bag" at the Salon Des Amis in Malvern, PA in 2004. The work we own is an encaustic painting on two panels.
