#28 in the Meet the Artists Who Have Inspired Us to Part with Our Cash series is Michael Guinn. According to Michael’s website, he…has been living in Philadelphia since 1951. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Samuel Fleisher Art Memorial. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art, now the University of the Arts, in 1966. After two years of independent study in Italy he returned to Philadelphia where he now lives. For the past thirty years he has been painting and drawing, and he has shown his works in Philadelphia, New York, Massachusetts, Texas, and Paros, Greece.
About art, he writes, "Like an ordinary radio which converts signals we can’t hear into sound we can hear, art in any of its many forms concentrates peculiar feelings of which we are vaguely aware. The "buzz," the "art experience," is the result of that concentration. When things are right in a work of art, the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts, and the work emits these signals, bringing us close to it, to each other, and to whatever is resonant in all existence."
According to Betsy and me, Michael is a friend whom – along wiht his wife, Cynthia Arkin – we’ve know for a number of years now, and whose work we both appreciate and enjoy immensely. They also do a great holiday card every year. You can see more of Michael’s work on his website at: http://michaelguinn.home.att.net/
