Hicks Art Center Exhibition – August 26th, 2009

Just got back from the Hicks Art Center Gallery after dropping off a few pieces for Betsy and my piece titled Fifty-Two Collages in 52 Weeks. I have moved this 4 foot by 9 foot piece several times and it’s always been an effort – mainly because a cargo van from uHaul is just barely large enough, and still you have to angle and wedge the piece to get the doors closed. This time I took the piece apart. It’s always been a three-sectioned work held together by a heavy-duty metal frame. The three sections fit fine in the back seat (floorboard, actually) of a rented Honda CR-V (provided by Zipcar). The two longest frame pieces stuck out of the passenger window about a foot and a half. Not bad. All in all, it was a pleasant drive and it all went back together pretty quickly.
The exhibition is titled "transFormations," and it features works made from found and recycled objects. A number of the Philadelphia Dumpster Divers are in the show.
