#9 in the Meet the Artists Who Have Inspired Us to Part with Out Cash series is Philadelphia artist Chiara Lattanzio. Chiara’s works are bold and vibrant, and her use of materials really intrigues me. Being a no rules kind of guy, I appreciate her use of plexiglass and pourable epoxy varnish (the kind you might use on bar and table surfaces). Click thumbnails to view larger images.
Chiara told me she uses a layering process in her work, incorporating a variety of media: enamels, oil, neopastels, alkyds, linseed oil, dry pigments, gold leaf, and epoxy. “I enjoy seeing the chemical reactions these materials have with each other,” she states on her website. She also likes to incorporate photocopies of old photographs with the various wet media.
You may run into Chiara from time to time at Ten Stone Bar & Restaurant where she works on ocassion. She also curates the gallery space there. You can view more of her wonderfully colorful and inventive mixed media paintings on her website at http://www.chiarapaint.com
She may be reached at info@chiarapaint.com.
